Antique, historical, and vintage quilts captivate me. I'm drawn to them at second hand shops, museums, eBay, etsy, and quilt shows. Scrap and feedsack quilts call me by name.
I have a large collection of quilt history books that delight and transport me to lifestyles of long ago. After inheriting three quilts/tops from my grandmother I began to add to my small collection. I'm not comfortable spending more than $50 or so especially for a top that requires lots of work.
This Bow Tie top was purchased online and I love the '40s feel. The poor little hand sewn seams are falling apart and there are a few stains. I started taking every seam apart and will try to salvage what I can. This probably will not be a Bow Tie quilt when it's done, but the fabrics will stay true to the original. It's someone's labor of love. It's a treasure.
